Summer Programs

When the weather is warm, Exum Mountain Guides offers a variety of activities for children, families, and aspiring climbers. Sign up for an instructional climbing course, or try your hand at an easy, moderate, or difficult day climb. Not sure where to start? Here are a few summer tour options.

1. The Classic Grand Teton

Towering above Jackson Hole at 13,770 feet, Grand Teton is one of North America’s most famous summits. A climb on this iconic peak isn’t easy, but Exum can help you do it! During two days of group instruction, participants are taught all of the skills necessary to climb: bouldering, rappelling, knots, rope management, and more. No prior experience is necessary.

2. Family Climbing

Rock climbing is a terrific way to involve the entire family in a Teton adventure. In fact, Family Climbing is one of Exum’s most popular programs. You’ll visit the Hidden Falls climbing area for a full day of climbing and rappelling. Families must have at least one kid under the age of 14 to sign up for this program, and kids must be at least seven to go without a parent.

3. Private Climbing Instruction

If you’re looking for a more customized experience, we recommend signing up for one of Exum’s private programs. Private instruction lets you learn what you want to learn at your own pace, from basic climbing skills to the most advanced techniques. Call (307) 733-2297 for details.

Winter Programs

Planning a trip to Jackson Hole this winter? You’re in luck! Exum Mountain Guides offers some of the best backcountry skiing in the US as well as avalanche instruction, winter mountaineering, and ice climbing at the Exum Ice Park. Here are two of our their most popular programs.

1. Ice Climbing

The mountains of northwest Wyoming offer ice and mixed climbing for all ability levels. With Exum’s ice climbing program, you’ll enjoy two days of climbing in the Lake Louise area of the Wind River Mountains. The first day includes all the basics: gear recommendations, basic footwork, rope handling, and proper use of ice tools. The second day involves an ascent up a spectacular ice gully.

2. Winter Peak Ascents

As you can probably guess, reaching the summit of a major Teton peak in winter requires exceptional mountaineering skills. But the journey is a rewarding one. You’ll be able to tackle the mountain without the crowds of summer and explore routes that probably aren’t climbed more than once a season. All you have to do is get out there and try it!

Note: Winter peak ascents are for experienced climbers only, as conditions may vary and avalanches are possible.
